Abstract

Introduction: Sedation is an integral part of management of mechanically ventilated critically ill patients in intensive care units (ICU). Daily sedation interruption (DSI) has been associated with better outcomes such as short ventilator, ICU and hospital length of stay (LOS), decreased incidence of ventilator acquired pneumonia. However, long-term outcomes such as memory impairment have not been explored in relation to DSI. This paper disseminates findings from a larger study that explored the experience of critically ill patients in the context of DSI.
