Abstract

While much attention has been paid to the influence of diet on health and disease in both the scientific and popular press, little research has been undertaken on its association with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). In a well conducted secondary analysis of two large, prospective cohort studies, Kaluza et al. investigated the association of a Mediterranean diet with the incidence of AAA.1 They found that greater adherence to a Mediterranean diet was related to a reduced incidence of AAA, but this effect was greatest in women and current or ex-smokers with a low pack year smoking history.
