Abstract
•The study contributes to knowledge on factors affecting participation in forest co-management and on-farm tree planting.•CFAs creation aimed to increase participation in forest management and enable access to forest resources.•Communities’ access low value products from forest such as firewood and have limited user rights.•While farmers age, education and extension services increased the likelihood of on farm tree planting, CFA membership and land tenure decreased.•Results suggest that co-management offer access for training and extensions, but do not facilitate adoption of on-farm trees.
