Abstract

Osgood-Schlatter disease is a traction apophysitis of the anterior tibial tuberosity. It is a selflimiting disease, with resolution in up to 90% of patients with conservative treatment. Its etiology is unknown despite clinical observation of the role of mechanical stress on the knee extensor apparatus in exacerbating symptoms. It occurs more commonly in males, between 10 and 15 years old and in physically active population. Its clinics reveals anterior knee pain with or without oedema, which can be unilateral or bilateral. Its diagnosis is clinical, and the main complementary exam is a radiography with two incidences (face and profile). The treatment is based on pain control, and quantitative and qualitative management of the work loads. Surgery is recommended only in rare cases.
