Abstract

AbstractObjectives. Valid, reliable and responsive instruments are needed to document clinical outcomes of neck pain patients in clinical practice. The purpose of this study was to design and develop a short form, multidimensional outcome measure for use in neck pain patients as well as test its utility in the routine practice setting.Method. The Bournemouth Questionnaire for the neck (BQ Neck) taps into the dimensions of pain, disability, cognitive and affective domains. In particular, the BQ Neck contains seven scales covering pain intensity, interference with daily and social activity, anxiety, depression, locus of pain control, and fear-avoidance beliefs. Each of the seven scales is represented by a simple 11-point numerical rating scale (NRS).The BQ Neck was tested for concurrent validity, test-retest reliability, and clinical responsiveness.
