Abstract

Aiming at the problem about DOA estimation of a far-field uniform linear array (ULA) under the framework of blind source separation (BSS), this paper proposes a method based on improved whitening and robust independent component analysis (RobustICA). The approach first adopts improved whitening preprocessing to reduce the noise of the received signals. Then, according to prior knowledge such as the independence of the signals, RobustICA is utilized to obtain the estimation of the steering vector matrix. Finally, combined with the matrix structure of ULA, the analytical solution is directly calculated to obtain the results. Simulation results demonstrate that compared with ESPRIT and MUSIC, the proposed method can still obtain high-precision estimation while the number of antenna elements is small, the SNR is low, and the incident angles of sources are closely spaced. Furthermore, under the premise that the number of elements is equal to that of sources, the proposed approach can also successfully estimate the angles, in which case, MUSIC and ESPRIT become invalid.
