Abstract

Purpose: Postoperative chest drainage systems are mostly based on water seal and wall suction. A new, self-contained, electronic, continuous pump-driven drainage system (nonstop suction from the operating room to chest-tube removal) is compared with a traditional wall-suction system in cardiac surgery. This new system is tested in a prospective, randomised study.
