EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER Treatment of hypertension with thiazide-type diuretics is associated with a higher risk of hyperglycemia and of developing type 2 diabetes (DM2) than treatment with other classes of antihypertensive medications (SOR: A, meta-analysis of RCTs and subsequent RCTs).
