Abstract
Simultaneous recordings of reflectance and the electroretinogram (ERG) of the meal moth superposition eye show a good match between the action spectrum of screening pigment migration and the spectral sensitivity curve (Fig. 5). These spectra correspond with the absorption spectrum of a xanthopsin X530 that has been evidenced in the eye. No correlation was found with the extinction spectrum of the pigment granules themselves (Fig. 7). The results suggest, that the photomechanical reaction is controlled by the visual pigment.
