Abstract

This paper presents an anonymous and unknown poem from the manuscript written by a PolishArian, Andrzej Lubieniecki (Remonstrants’ Library in Rotterdam, MS 527). It is the first truly comprehensive poetic description of the Netherlands. The composition of the poem is ruled by rhetoric– the laudatory topic of a place and a person. The anonymous author’s opinion is confronted withthat expressed by Jakub Kazimierz Haur in his poem O holenderskich krainach z narodem (partof Haur’s Mercurius… MS 191 Library of the University of Warsaw MS 191). The anonymousdescription is written from the Arian point of view; its author admires the spirit of liberty and thedynamism observed in Holland.
