L. Abstract We present a list of 55 OB runaway candidates. Assuming the conventional explanation of a runaway in terms of a supernova explosion in a close binary, we use considerations of mass exchange to place an upper bound on the mass of an hypothetical collapsed companion for some of the candidates. In 11 cases the available data are not inconsistent with the presence of a companion massive enough to be a black hole. We suggest observations to test the model, to establish better bounds on remnant masses, and (possibly) to detect collapsed companions.
