Abstract

Various data points seem to indicate that the U.S. is in a virtual Social Studies crisis. Although the problems stem from various factors, there are practical solutions to alleviate these issues that should be implemented. One realistic solution is to try and implement more Project-Based Learning into classrooms, especially for History and Social Studies. PBL is not the solution to all problems, but is a starting point from the ground up to possibly improve multiple literacies needed for active, engaged, and careful citizenship. At the very least, it is a fresh way for students to learn while doing meaningful and authentic work for the real world.
