Treatment response to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) remains poorly understood. We examined mast cell burden in esophageal biopsies of pediatric subjects with PPI-responsive (PPI-R) EoE, PPI-nonresponsive (PPI-NR) EoE, and non-EoE esophageal dysfunction (controls).
