Abstract

Do-it-yourself investors interested in stock market investing have a number of convenient and low-cost methods of market entry. For those interested in investing in the food and beverage industries, Direct Stock Purchase programs (DSPs), Dividend Reinvestment programs (DRIPs), and American Depository Receipts (ADRs) offer many attractive benefits to shareholders. Their sponsoring corporations are finding them effective tools for raising capital and for forging relationships with customers. Every shareholder is a potential customer and every customer is a potential shareholder. As such, direct investing programs are becoming an important part of a firm's integrated marketing communications effort. Such investment programs are profiled here. Their availability and contribution to firm performance will likely increase in the future.
