Abstract

This concluding article summarizes the findings from the contributions that precede it in this special issue on Asian values. The article draws attention to common themes in the articles and the contribution they make to the wider debate concerning the importance of Asian values. More specifically, the article looks at the relationship between culture, values, and identity, on the one hand, and the development of processes leading to a strengthening regional community in East Asia on the other. The study concludes by raising additional questions arising out of the earlier articles in the issue, moving the debate on Asian values to a new position in comparative politics and international relations discourse.
