Abstract

The objective of the work presented in this paper is direct numerical simulation (DNS) of three-dimensional turbulent compressible fluid flow about oscillating boundaries with application to problems of aeroelasticity. In a first step a high order in space and second order in time difference method which was originally designed for DNS of compressible fluid flow with stationary boundary conditions has been extended for simulating turbulent flow on dynamic grids fitted to a body which oscillates about an axis fixed in space. The first tests of the method concern transonic flow about the supercritical airfoil NLR7301.
