Abstract

In the present study the results of DNA analysis of three related aphid species, Aphis schneideri (Born.), A. grossulariae (Kalt.) and A. triglochinis Theob., are reported, along with those of certain experimental interspecific hybrid clones of the mentioned species. DNAs of the species were analysed using a randomly amplified polymorphic DNA polymerase chain reaction (RAPD-PCR) technique. Nine clones of the three species from Lithuania and two hybrid clones were compared. Amplification with four primers resulted in characteristic DNA patterns in different species. The polymorphic bands, which were reproduced well, were considered diagnostic ones. A. schneideri and A. grossulariae were remarkably different from A. triglochinis. The research confirmed that RAPD-PCR technique allowed distinguishing closely related species. It was also useful for hybrid clone analysis.
