Abstract

SummaryReynolds, D. R. & Taylor, J. W.: DNA specimens and the ‘International code of botanical nomenclature‘. ‐ Taxon 40: 311–315. 1991. ‐ ISSN 0040‐0262.Existing rules of the ‘International code of botanical nomenclature’ apply to the nomenclature of a DNA‐based species concept. DNA can serve as the type element. Two hypothetical examples of validation of fictitious new mycological species are given, one for a mix of DNA and morphological type materials and the other for DNA type material only. It is recommended that herbaria prepare to curate genomic DNA material as types.
