Abstract

In this paper, we demonstrate an integrated FiWi system including direct modulated laser (DML)-based interme-diate frequency over fiber (IFoF) transmission and a 28 GHz mmWave access link. Using a simple power-and-bit loading optimization algorithm to compensate for the FiWi link non-linearities and bandwidth limitations, we show the transmission of 12 aggregated 400 MHz bandwidth component carriers (CCs) over 13 km fiber and 1m wireless link achieving a data-rate beyond 22 Gbps. The flexibility of the joint bit and power loading is demonstrated for single and multi-user scenarios by performing overall bit rate maximization, error-vector-magnitude (EVM) equalization and power equalization among CCs shared between users.
