Abstract

Introduction: In 2020, the Mobile Palliative Care Team at Valenciennes Hospital developed a system to support the collegiate procedure and ethical reflection. This was achieved through meetings held with the aim of promoting ethical reflection in Critical Care Units.Aim: A practice analysis process was initiated after two years, with the objective of collecting expectations regarding intensive care units and subsequently exploring the role of palliative care in these units. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted to analyze the records of patients who died in two critical care units in 2019 and 2022.Results: The analysis of the files indicates a favourable evolution in the field of regulatory and legislative aspects. However, this is not the case for certain aspects of the palliative approach, which shows a trend in practices consistent with the results of the descriptive survey conducted in 2022.Conclusion: The findings of this study confirm the existence and nature of differences in the representations of the professionals involved in the study according to their respective specialities. Furthermore, the study validates the possibility of mutual agreement between critical care and palliative care teams on the values that are shared by them. However, the model described does not appear to have been effective in integrating the palliative approach and requires further consideration of a model adapted to institutional requirements.
