Abstract

Lean Six Sigma based on coupling DMAIC practices with a Lean approach has yielded important and valuable results in the context of healthcare, such as reduced length of stay in services and increased patient satisfaction. Therefore, this study aims to understand the DMAIC method in the context of Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma implementation in processes focusing on direct patient care. Articles have been reviewed and topics were addressed with the aim of performing the DMAIC method through Six Sigma/Lean Six Sigma, namely: Replication and Lessons Learned. Project replication was not found in a large number of works evaluated in the systematic literature review. Results of DMAIC implementation in 50 emergency care units (UPAs) in Brazil and a compilation of lessons learned from each UPA enables replication in other 50 emergency care units. Moreover, the article provides lessons learned from 3 emergency care units.
