Abstract

In this article, Diyarbakri’s life and works will be discussed and then his work, titled Taʾrīkh al-khamis fi ahvâli anfas nafis, will be summarized in terms of method and content. Hussain b. Muḥammad al-Diyarbakri who is among historians in XVIth century is one of the most important authors of Sīra (Prophetic Biography) with his work titled Taʾrīkh al-khamis fi ahvâli anfas nafis, in addition to his duties as a qadi (muslim judge), Skhaikh al-haram and Mudarris. There is little information about his life in the sources, in which the most of these information are mere repetition. He is a scholar and versatile genius who worked as a Qāḍī in Mecca and Medina as well as performing duties of Mudarris for Sulaymaniyya Madrasa in Mecca and Skhaikh al-haram of Mecca. His work titled Taʾrīkh al-khamis fi ahvâli anfas nafis is an important work that is of importance and needs to be analyzed because of its use of resources and the rich narrations it contains. In this study, we will try to examine Diyarbakri’s life and works, which is almost never studied in our country, and his historiography within the framework of Taʾrīkh al-khamis and importance in the Islamic history.
