Abstract

Following the method of construction of current life tables, abridged divorce tables are presented for U.S. females for the year 1960. In the construction of the tables, mortality factor has not been considered. An index of marital disruption has been defined. It is seen that a married female aged 20 had a chance of 29 in 100 of becoming divorced during her lifetime, while her chance of falling a victim to divorce during the child bearing span was 25 in 100. A married female aged 20, could look forward to 25 years of uninterrupted married life during the reproductive span.
