Abstract

In this book William C. Chittick provides a first-time look at historic Persian literature and the topic of love, which is at the heart of Islamic spiritual thought. It contains extensive Arabic and Persian material, from the Qur'an up through the twelfth century, and draws on more than a thousand pages of new translations. The book culminates in a new way of understanding the Tawhid, the Unity of the Real, and leads readers through the origins of love, the life of love, and the goal of love.
