Abstract
Divide and conquer algorithms are formulated for the solution of the eigenvalue problem for symmetric band matrices. The new algorithms are compared to the traditional solutionspaths offered by Eispack, tridiagonalization of the band matrix followed by the tridiagonal QR algorithm.
