Abstract

The Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano area is one of the famous ecotourism areas in Yogyakarta. In this area, there are Ancient Volcanoes and Kedung Kandang waterfall as tourist sites. Both places have good geographical conditions and support as a place for herpetofauna to live. This study aims to describe the diversity of herpetofauna in the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano (AV) area, Pathuk, Gunungkidul, D. I. Yogyakarta. This research is a descriptive observational or descriptive survey with sampling through the Visual Encounter Survey (VES) associated with the active technique of Hand Searching. The herpetofauna survey was held in the day and night, with 4 (four) times observations each, from March to April 2021. The level of diversity was calculated using the Shannon-Wiener index. The result showed that at the research site, 14 species of herpetofauna were found to belong to 8 families. The level of diversity in the research area is classified as medium, according to the Shannon-Wiener (H’) criteria as the value of the index (H’) is 2.015.
