Abstract
A total of 26 ascomycetous wood-rotting fungi were recorded and identified from eight selected forest stands of Nagaland with different altitudes ranging from 221 to 2315msl. Among these, Jackrogersella minutella is reported for the first time from India. It belonged to the family Hypoxylaceae. Maximum number of species was collected form Rusoma community forest (Site 3), located at an altitude of 890msl. Xylaria polymorpha was found in the study sites. The correlation between occurrences of species with altitude does not show any correlation with Pearson’s correlation efficient (r) value of − 0.14 and the correlation is statistically insignificant. Maximum number of species was collected during summer (July–September) followed by autumn (October and November). Daldinia concentrica and X. polymorpha were collected from all the four seasons studied. It was also observed that majority of the species were found growing on twigs at decay stages III or IV. Shannon’s diversity index was the highest in Rusoma community forest (H′ = 2.310).
