Abstract
Change in the Middle East and adjacent regions often results in strife, tension, and cultural weakening. This tendency is discussed with reference to the concept of anomie in which socially acceptable goals can no longer be achieved in socially acceptable ways. Facing such situations, distinctive groups may benefit from concepts such as the 'concurrent majority' which is a defence of the rights and heritage of minority groups. The Middle East might benefit from strategies such as this.
