Abstract
The present study was conducted with an aim to assess the tree and shrub diversity in forest and agriculture land use classes of Mehari watershed of Doongi block in district Rajouri, J&K. It was observed that the diversity of trees and shrubs is more in agriculture land. Of all the tree species observed in agriculture area, Psidium guajava was the dominant tree species with density of 5.5 ind/ha and IVI of 21.48. It was also found that Zizyphus oxyphylla is the dominant shrub species with density of 7.8 ind/ha and IVI of 66.08. In forest Pinus roxburghii was the dominant tree species with density of 10.08 ind/ha and IVI of 193.75. The value of Shannon-Weiner Index in agriculture land use for tree and shrub species was 3.08 and 1.40 respectively. Similarly in forest area the Shannon-Weiner Index value for tree species was found to be 1.231 whereas the value for shrub species was 0.285.
