Abstract

Kosman's diversity indices were calculated for infection response (IR) of Finnish populations of Pyrenophora teres f. teres screened on seedlings of a differential barley series. The isolates were collected from eleven sites and from two host barley genotypes. The results indicated the importance of standardising the IR screening, and that phenotypic diversity within populations from the different sites was greater than phenotypic differences between them. Levels of diversity within populations and distances between were similar using IR data gathered from screening P. teres isolates from six countries. Passaging these isolates through two barley genotypes had no significant effect on diversity and distance measurements for IR.
