Abstract

As higher education in Uruguay moves from a monopoly model with a single public university to a diversified scenario with multiple institutions, the new dynamics in the system provide an interesting field to revisit the impact of isomorphic forces in higher education. The analysis of the intersection of relevant literature on New Institutionalism, which highlights institutional rationality towards the emulation of leading organizations, and of the growing bibliography on private higher education, provides insights to understand how public-private relationships are changing in higher education.
