Abstract

Both endotoxin and mold exposures have been associated with asthma severity. No study has evaluated their effects on long-term lung function and exacerbation risk. We used the recombinant Factor C (rFC) assay instead of the Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) assay to distinguish endotoxin exposure from molds (LAL detects both endotoxin and mold glucans); hence independent effects of home endotoxin and mold exposure on asthma outcomes were evaluated.
