Abstract

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) delivered to the ventral capsule/ventral striatum is effective in reducing symptoms in treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and major depression (MDD). Inflexible behavior is a core symptom in OCD and MDD. Clinical evidence from our group has shown that DBS modulation of corticostriatal circuits leads to improvements in flexibility. In order to further investigate DBS mechanisms, we are reverse translating our clinical results into an animal model while investigating specific circuits underlying DBS’s positive effects.
