Abstract

A new series of 14–20 membered tetraamide macrocyclic complexes, [ML 1]Cl 2–[ML 8]Cl 2, of cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) have been prepared via the template condensation of dicarboxylic acid with primary diamines. All the complexes are soluble in most polar solvents. The complexes have been characterized by IR, 1H NMR, mass, ESR and electronic spectral studies and magnetic measurements. A square planar geometry for the complexes, [ML n ] 2+, where M = Ni II and Cu II, or a tetrahedral geometry for M = Co II and Zn II have been assigned. The electrical conductivity data in DMSO are as expected for 1:2 electrolytes.
