Abstract

Abstract Observation of surface winds on the Drakensberg escarpment at Sani Pass reveals a marked diurnal variation of wind direction under clear weather conditions. By night north-westerly gradient winds commonly prevail while by day easterly winds are due to the overflow or a plainmountain circulation onto the 3000 m Lesotho massif at Sani Pass.
