Abstract

A novel eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor named dithiocarbamate modified glucose (DTCG) was synthesized from glucose by amination and nucleophilic addition reaction. The anti-corrosion behavior of DTCG for copper in 3 wt% NaCl solution was studied by experimental and theoretical methods. The results show that its maximum inhibitive efficiency can exceed 96% using different technology assessments. DTCG as a mixed-type inhibitor is firmly adsorbed on the copper surface and presents typical chemisorption. DTCG shows significant anti-corrosion performance compared with other glucose-based inhibitors. The DFT calculation results confirms the experimental conclusions.
