Abstract

AbstractTen new diterpenoids, minabeins‐1 to −10, possessing the known briarein skeleton have been isolated from a soft coral, Minabea sp., collected from Truk Lagoon, Eastern Caroline Islands. This is the first report of the occurrence of this class of compounds in soft corals. An analysis of the distribution of cembranoids and various cyclized cembranoids among three orders of octorcorals (soft corals, gorgonians, and sea pens) is presented. Structures and relative stereochemistry of the minabeins was determined by extensive1H and13C NMR spectral analysis.
