Abstract

Disturbances in automatic production systems were examined by conducting interviews and recording disturbances. All in all 35 systems were examined. This information was completed with a case study. The case study was made in a flexible manufacturing system (FMS), which produces gear wheels. The system contained about 20 numerically controlled machines, and the research was done within a period of 15 months. Accident data were collected from companies and data banks. This material proved that about one half of the disturbances decreases the safety of the workers in automatic production. The main causes for the disturbances were: errors in the design of the system, failures in components, human factors and other external factors.
