Abstract

Aim: Estrogen deficiency in postmenopausal women, in association with physical inactivity and enlarged caloric intake, increases risk for insulin resistance, which leads to development of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Exercise is recognized as nonpharmacological treatment for increasing insulin sensitivity but its effect on cardiac insulin resistance in menopausal females has been questioned. In this study, we investigated the preventive role of low intensity exercise in ovariectomized rats on high fructose diet on disturbances in cardiac insulin signaling that regulates nitric oxide production important for cardiac circulation.
