Abstract

ROBABLY no turtle family is so commonly encountered in the field and yet so poorly known taxonomically as the Kinosternidae. The research of several contemporary students of the group, however, should soon clarify the interand intrageneric relationships. To this end, Conant and Berry (1978) have solved many of the distributional and nomenclatural problems for kinosternids in the Trans-Pecos area of Texas and adjacent Chihuahua, Mexico. Similar problems exist for Kinosternon in other parts of the southwestern United States and adjacent Mexico, and I wish here to rectify them.
