Abstract

The model and topological characteristics of distribution system security region (DSSR) are studied in this paper to meet the demand of real-time monitoring,. First, a more accurate DSSR model is proposed, which is based on detailed feeder-interconnected topology, and both substation transformer and feeder N-1 contingencies are considered. Second, generic characteristics of DSSR are discussed and mathematically proved. That is, DSSR is a dense convex set of which boundary can be expressed by several hyper-planes. The benefits of these characteristics are also analyzed. Finally, the results from a test case demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed modeling approach; the 2D and 3D shape of DSSR is also illustrated by means of visualization. The new DSSR model and the proofs of topological characteristics are fundamental work of DSSR theory, which is intended to be applied in realtime monitoring in future distribution systems.
