Abstract

This paper reviews a study of the longitudinal distribution of the gain in He-Ne lasers, where it was found that the gain increases toward the anode. The typical distribution of He I and Ne I spectral intensities along the axis of the discharge is shown. The authors find that the appearance of an anomalous region in the positive column of the He-Ne discharge is apparently attributable to a complex change in the composition of the mixture and plasma parameters owing to cataphoresis.
