Abstract

Diacylglyceryltrimethylhomoserines (DGTS) and phospholipid composition has been studied in 13 marine, three brackish and 16 freshwater species of green macrophytes. DGTS was detected in all marine and brackish algae, and in four freshwater algae. DGTS was not found in any marine or freshwater grasses. It was also demonstrated that the most distinctive feature of the polar lipids of the green macrophytic species examined was the combined production of three polar lipids, DGTS, phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylglycerol.
