Abstract

This work is a contribution to the taxonomy and ecology of the benthic Oligochaeta of Lake Titicaca, Lake Poopo and smaller lake basins from western and eastern sides of the Bolivian Royal Cordillera. Benthic fauna of the small lakes include several typical taxa known exclusively from South America. In the two great lakes, Titicaca and Poopo, the chemical properties of the water play an important part in the composition of the benthic fauna.
