Abstract
Analysis of weekly water samples taken at three depths from a nearshore station in Lake Ontario indicated significant (P > 0.05) relationships between particulate organic carbon (POC), total particulate nitrogen (TPN), chlorophyll a and total bacteria. Application of a stepwise multiple regression indicated that particulate organic carbon (POC) and temperature were the only two measured parameters that had significant effect on total bacterial numbers.
