Abstract

The distribution and abundance of European anchovy and Mediterranean horse-mackerel eggs has been investigated at 34 stations from the Turkish Economic Zone's in the south -west Black Sea. In this investigation which is covered the reproduction period (July 1992), a patchy distribution of the eggs is observed in the area. The average abundance values are determined as a 25.2 eggs/m2 (SD 28.3) for anchovy and 3.5 eggs/m2 (SD 6.8) for Mediterranean horse-mackerel. The eggs abundance has been gradually increased towards to the entrance of Bosphorus. Around this area the actual abundance values were 135 eggs/m2 for anchovy and between 3-14 eggs/m2 for Mediterranean horse-mackerel.
