Abstract

Satellite Internet of Things (IoT) network where IoT terminals randomly access the wireless channel and transmit packets to satellites develops rapidly in recent years. Although great progress on satellite multiple access has been made in Random Access (RA) algorithms, packets loss and low throughput present an obstacle for satellite IoT network. A distributed transmission RA scheme is designed in this paper that each terminal independently decides whether to transmit a packet or stay idle. Each terminal decides the packet transmission probability by the situation of network traffic load known by the system information that is sent from satellite on a broadcast channel to terminals. This problem can be formulated as an optimization problem with mathematical method, and it can be solved by genetic algorithm (GA). The simulation results show that the scheme we proposed promotes network throughput and packet loss rate is controlled within a considerable range.
