Abstract

A distributed polarization crosstalk (DPC) measurement method for a polarization-maintaining device is proposed based on optical frequency domain polarimetry (OFDP). An interpolation resampling algorithm is presented to correct the phase error induced by the nonlinear frequency sweep of the laser. Furthermore, an iterative dispersion compensation algorithm is proposed to suppress the influence of the birefringence dispersion of the DUT. A comparative measurement result for a 500m-length PM fiber coil between the OFDP and the conventional optical coherence domain polarimetry (OCDP) method demonstrates that the OFDP method has a superior dynamic range of >10 dB and a much less measurement time. It shows promise for the dynamic measurement of DPC.
