Abstract
The paper addresses a new distributed model predictive control (MPC) algorithm for load-frequency control (LFC) of a four-area interconnected power system, which takes the effect of a wind turbine into account at the same time. The overall system is decomposed into four subsystems, where each control area has an independent MPC controller. These subsystem-based MPC controllers work cooperatively while satisfying systemwide optimal problems. Simulation results show that with the proposed distributed MPC technique, the overall system has good performance in face of load disturbance, while respecting generation rate constraints (GRC).
