Abstract

Some topics connected with distributed information objects are discussed briefly. These include metadata, which is described by Cory Doctorow as ‘metacrap’, Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR), Knowledge Representation, the Semantic Web, Resource Description Framework (RDF) and Triples, namespace control and combining distributed data, Semantic Web Ontologies, the Web Ontology Language (OWL), the Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS), and Topic Maps.
